GAVIN MACLEAN | Managing Director

Gavin has 18 years experience in the areas of Employment Law, Civil Litigation and Criminal Law. Gavin regularly advises Employers and Employees in relation disputes that arise in the workplace.
Gavin has considerable experience and expertise in the litigation of employment disputes in the Federal Court, Federal Circuit Court, Fair Work Commission, Industrial Magistrates Court and Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
Prior to commencing at MacLean Legal Gavin was the In-House Counsel at the CFMEU WA where he specialised in all areas of employment law, workplace disputes and managing friction in the workplace.
Gavin also has expertise in criminal law and is regularly engaged in trial and appeal work in the Magistrates Court, Children's Court, District Court and Supreme Court of Western Australia. Prior to commencing at MacLean Legal Gavin worked for the Aboriginal Legal Service in Perth and ran the Aboriginal Legal Service in Kununurra and Derby.
Gavin is a member of the Law Society of Western Australia and the Criminal Lawyer’s Association of Western Australia.
ALISHA MAHARAJ-MACLEAN | Director

Alisha specialises in the areas of mining and infrastructure projects in Western Australia. Alisha regularly advises clients on complex government approval processes, dealing with compulsory acquisition matters, Indigenous Land Use Agreements and land access issues. Alisha is a skilled negotiator who is able to manage various stakeholder interests.
Alisha also has experience in general commercial law, providing governance advice and completing contract reviews. Alisha also regularly advises clients on intellectual property related matters including disputes on copyright and trademarks.
Alisha is a member of the Law Society of Western Australia.
Specific Project Involvement
- Acted for various Traditional Owner groups in negotiating future act and Aboriginal heritage agreements for major iron ore mining projects, quarrying projects and road and rail infrastructure
- Negotiated an Indigenous Land Use Agreement for a marine and nature reserve in the Pilbara region of Western Australia
- Advised and assisted not for profit clients in establishing governance and compliance frameworks
ROMAN KAN | Lawyer
Roman has completed a Bachelor of Laws at Murdock University and was subsequently admitted as a lawyer to the Supreme Court of Western Australia and registered as a Barrister and Solicitor to the High Court of Australia in 2012.

Roman has experience in criminal law representing a diverse range of clients. He regularly appears in the Magistrates Court, Children’s Court, District Court and Supreme Court. Further, Roman has acted as junior counsel and solicitor instructing counsel in trial hearings in the District Court and Supreme Court on a range of matters and charges including assault, drug offences, traffic offences and sexual assault.
Additionally, Roman has experience in negotiating and drafting native title agreements, indigenous land use agreements and section 31 deeds pursuant to the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).
Specific Project Involvement
- Negotiation for the conversion of portions of a pastoral lease into freehold tenure for the purpose of a significant irrigation project.
- Warnparta and Pardoo Beef ILUA negotiation.
DANAE ALDOUS | Lawyer
Danae has completed a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Western Australia, and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law.
In 2016 Danae commenced working at MacLean Legal as a Law Graduate and was admitted to practice as a Lawyer later that year. Danae practices across all of MacLean Legal’s areas and regularly appears in the Magistrates Court.
During four years of volunteering in the Criminal Law Division at Legal Aid, Danae assisted with criminal appeals. Furthermore, Danae assisted with the Department of the Attorney General's Review of the Criminal Law (Mentally Impaired Accused) Act 1996 (WA).
Danae has gained work experience at the Department of the Attorney General (WA) and with Senior Counsel at Francis Burt Chambers, where she aided Counsel in analysing evidence arising out of the coronial inquest into the death in custody of Ms Dhu.
Danae is particularly interested in advocating for those vulnerable within our legal system, so as to ensure justice is universally available and is a member of Women Lawyers of WA.
SUSAN CLAYTON | Para-Legal/p>
Susan manages all aspects of MacLean Legal's high level diary and meeting logistics for Native Title Claim Group meetings. Thus includes each groups' respective Working Group meetings, Community meetings, Annual General Meetings, Cross Cultural Awareness Training workshops, heritage surveys and enterprise meetings.
Susan initially worked for 10 years as a Personal Assistant t the Chief Executive Counsel of a medium sized law firm in Brisbane. In 2008, Susan moved to Perth and began working in the Native Title industry.
She has held the role of Trust Administrator and Manager for Native Title trusts based in the Pilbara for over 4 years. During her work in the Native Title industry, Susan has formed close relationships with sever Native Title claim groups and continues these relationships with her role at MacLean Legal.
ASHA MAHARAJ | Business Manager
Asha has been working at MacLean Legal since 2011 and is the key in managing the financial areas of MacLean Legal and is the manager for the MacLean Legal trust account. Not only is Asha in charge of invoicing and billing, but she also liaises with clients regarding financial and invoice queries
